When I landed in the hospital last May, everything was put on hold. We hadn’t discussed names for the triplets and the nursery plans were tucked into our back pocket. With two girls and a boy, we decided on grey and yellow, a nice gender neutral room. If you have ever watched me on tv, you know that I’m a conservative gal…or “classic”, as I like to call it! So, I wanted to stick to a simple room.
We finally started our nursery in October, when we realized that Peyton would be coming home soon. We had a different room picked to fit three cribs, but with only one, we moved Peyton’s nursery to an adorable room with a wall full of windows. The one thing I knew I wanted–horizontal stripes! I saw it a few years ago on a friend’s blog and loved the idea. If you are ever looking for fun and inexpensive DIY ideas for your home, check out MakingOurDream.com. Michelle is so creative and thrifty, plus she is hilarious!
Thank goodness Ryan is a carpenter, it is much easier to make my ideas become reality. The nursery is quaint, so there isn’t much room for decorating. But, we made the most of it and I absolutely love it! Our rocking chair is cozy and we spend a lot of time reading books with Peyton on our lap (She loves Dr. Seuss!). And that’s also where you see the adorable pictures. The chair is giant compared to Miss P, but she fits perfectly into the corner for her many camera ops.
The grey wall has a special pennant banner along the top; a gift from a family friend. And my favorite part of the room–three shadow boxes, one for each of our triplets. It was extremely emotional going through their hospital things, but I wanted to do something so that all three of my children would be part of the nursery. We have Abby’s footprints and hospital hat, Parker’s little bow tie and his last outfit, and Peyton’s tiara and first outfit she every wore. Take a look at the pictures below for more. As Ryan and I went through their things, we couldn’t believe how small everything was. It’s hard to see how tiny they were, especially now as we see Peyton getting so big.
Other additions to the nursery–a lot of special gifts! A new friend made a precious tutu wreath, complete with a crown, and a twin mom gave us a beautiful picture with a perfect quote. We also had a Nicu picture framed. A nurse got all three of our children’s footprints at birth–So tiny, yet so perfect. And check out the ground. Riley loves to protect Peyton, so we put a bed in there for him to sleep.
And a very special gift from Peyton’s nurse, Mindy. The blocks say, “Abigail and Parker in our hearts, Peyton in our hands.” There is a block that has their birthday and one with footprints that says, “Born together, to grow apart.” The flower on the bookcase is from Parker’s funeral. We dried one of the roses and it smells amazing!
One other thing I wanted to show off–a quilt full of love. Because I couldn’t travel, friends had planned a few baby showers, that unfortunately I never got to have because of my early delivery. My mom planned a long distance shower, where everyone was set to call me in the hospital. With each invite, she sent a square of fabric for friends and family to decorate. My mom recently sewed them together into a blanket and it is something I’ll cherish forever.
As for Peyton, she is doing great! Our Nicu appointment went well and the hospital came by this week to pick up the oxygen tanks and monitor. After about 8 months, she is tube free and cord free! Our princess is getting more active by the day. She is SO happy and I can’t help but think that Parker and Abigail are shining through every time she smiles. Which brings me to a little secret. How do we get her to grin on cue? Check out her favorite toy below. It rattles, and the moment I start shaking it, a huge grin takes over her face!
The countdown is on for my return to the news business. Look for a post next week on the emotional decision to continue my career and why I finally feel ready to start a “new normal”.

What a darling nursery! She is going to have the best angels watching over her every step. I love your blog even though some times I get a tad misty eyed it is so great to see the updates. It’s a big motivation to work through my carpal tunnel and get back to making little headbands for cuties in the nicu. My son still says that taking those up there was one of the best things he’s done with me. Just don’t tell him I told you all. He is a big tough football player 🙂
Awe, that is SO sweet to hear!

I first of all I would like to tell you that I’ve been following your blog through mutual friend and I love how well Peyton is doing. The room is adorable. I feel a connected to you because I have lost a baby and my heart aches for anyone that has gone through the same thing. I was reading today’s blog and looking at the pictures when I noticed your triplets have the same birthday as my precious angle. I burst into tears instintely. June 23rd is a very special day close to my heart and Peyton along with my children, have some very special guardian angles watching over them. Your memory boxes are so sweet.
I love Peyton’s room. It is so nice and I know she loves it too. Can’t wait to see you back on the News, I really have missed you, but know you had other things to do, a lot more important. Peyton is beautiful and growing so fast now.

This is so adorable and I love the bedroom and of course, Ms Peyton. I’m so glad to hear and see that she isn’t spoiled one bit…..keep up the good work and will be glad to see you back on the air….Peyton is so darn cute that I just want to go thru the computer and hug her to pieces.
Love her room! You’re right about the stripes. You have such thoughtful family and friends. The memorials to the babies are so tastefully done. I love the quilt! What a treasure. I was wondering what Peyton weighs now. She is go cute and growing so much!
So glad you included Riley in her room. It’s so great you included him. Sometimes pets are forgotten and feel jealous. I know this is not the case with him. My cat used to sleep in the crib when Courtney wasn’t in it!
I love to see these updates and I am so happy that Peyton is doing good. She is a beautiful baby and looks very happy. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.
What an absolutely adorable room!!! I love it. The shadow boxes, the blocks from nurse mindy, and the framed pic with all three footprints are simply incredible. She is just soooo cute! I am happy that she is doing so well. I love the “love quilt”. We did one for my niece about 6 years ago when she was going through treatment for leukemia. It turned out to be about 5 feet long and 4 feet wide. She uses it as a wall hanging now. You and your family have come a long way in the past year. I am so excited for all of you. Will be glad to see you back at WAND.
PEYTON YOU ARE A SWEET LITTLE DIVA!!
