It has taken 15 months, but Peyton seems to be slowly catching up! We knew it would be a long process, especially for a baby born more than 17 weeks premature. Since day one, doctors have said that it could take 2 years or beyond for Peyton to catch up to other children her age.
Well, it looks like P is well on her way. We had a Nicu follow up appointment last week, and for the first time, Miss P measured on her actual growth chart!!! She’s a whopping 17 lbs. For those of you without kids, it’s a big deal for us. Doctors keep track of height and weight to see how children are growing. She may only be in the 5th percentile, but it’s a huge accomplishment. To see how much she’s grown, just check out P sporting her “WAND’s Newest Viewer” shirt. It’s a size 6 month. It was huge 9 months ago, but now finally fits!!! The other good news–her lungs are sounding great. Peyton has been on the mend since her week long stay in the hospital last month. She has a nebulizer that will help her lungs through the winter and we are keeping our fingers crossed that she makes it through her second winter without getting sick.
As for her developmental accomplishments, this girl is off the charts. It’s hard to look at her and not question, “what’s wrong with her?”. Being born so early and sick, coupled with both her brother and sister not surviving, you would think that Peyton would face a lifetime of hurdles. But as of now, her early challenges don’t pose a problem. Sure, she’s not walking or standing on her own, or even talking (other than babbling), but that will come with time. She has learned to pull up on her own in recent weeks…and that’s big news in our household! She also tries to climb over everything. Case in point–her favorite chair that she finally fits into (Thanks Auntie Caro and Marcy!). But as you can see from her crying pose, Peyton hasn’t mastered how to get down just yet.
As we get into the heart of autumn, our freedom will soon go by the wayside. Peyton’s Nicu doctor gave us the ok to be out and about for the time being. Miss P already came down with the enterovirus, so now we will have to keep an eye out for RSV and the flu. Once it becomes more prevalent in our area, we’ll start keeping her indoors. But, boy are we having fun getting out and about! Take a look at the pictures below. Our favorite diner was pleasantly surprised when we showed up for breakfast last weekend. And we took her for burger and football, as well as a Target run (which she LOVED). We even volunteered for a charity run benefiting Children’s Miracle Network and St. John’s Children’s Hospital in Springfield. We are more than happy to lend a hand to an organization that has done so much for Peyton and our two triplet angels.
As I wrap up, I want to mention one more thing. October is “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month”. This weekend, Ryan and I will take part in our local “Walk To Remember”. It’s a beautiful event, giving families a chance to remember and honor their angels. Last year as we walked, Peyton was still in the hospital. This year, we’ll be taking her with us and will hug her tight as they read Abigail and Parker’s names. It’s a special day for not just us, but for the hundreds (if not thousands) of other families who have also lost a child. I’ll share more about it next week on the blog.

Good morning Miss Peyton!!!
Peyton I am so happy you are doing so well. You are quite the amazing girl. I am sending a gentle hug to you.
Wow! She is doing so wonderfully! My two that were born 5 weeks early weighed about 19lbs when they were 15 months! She is amazing! Will she be getting the RSV vaccine? My oldest got it because she had to be on oxygen at birth and I swear to this day she never gets sick, and she is 12! I wish all babies were able to get it. Love the pics!
Thanks Cassandra! Peyton got the RSV vaccine last year and doctors are hopeful that she’ll qualify again this year. It sure does help!

Stacy wear did you find premie clothes for Peyton? my nephew and his wife just had a little girl and she weighs 4.5 pounds and are finding it very hard to find sleepers and clothes. so I just wandered if you knew of some places to buy clothing. thanks Peyton is so beautiful love seeing the updates.
Hi Cynthia! We found the best preemie clothes were from Carter’s. They are true to size and really did start fitting Peyton at around 5lbs. GAP also has a “up to 7lbs” line of preemie clothes that we liked, but they run fairly big.
Hi Peyton!! I love reading the stories your Mom shares with us. We keep you and you family in our prayers.
Hello Sweet Pea Peyton!! I love books and I hope someday your talented journalistic Mother will write a children’s book about you and your siblings – I think there is a fantastic book waiting to emerge.
Great idea Debbie!
love the updates she is so adorable
Stacey & Ryan, I am so proud of you both. I love watching Peyton grow, and knowing that you both are healing and so full of hope.
