Every child deserves a birthday celebration. And in Peyton’s case, she gets two this year! This week, Miss P reached her “adjusted” first birthday. The triplets weren’t due until October, yet came more than four months premature. So, doctors go by her “adjusted age”, until she catches up developmentally with other kids her actual age. Yep, it’s confusing…especially if you don’t have a preemie child! But any reason to celebrate is exciting for my family, so Peyton got a special treat. We didn’t go with another giant smash cake, instead a mini carrot cake. No smiles for this girl–she was all business with the sweet treat!
We’re in the middle of a busy few weeks of doctor’s appointments and therapy. But all in all, Peyton is doing great. She was just tested for her development and she’s doing great for a 22 weeker. She’s 16 months old, yet only 12 months adjusted (does that make sense?!?). And while she’s behind a bit with her motor skills, speech, etc., no one is concerned. She’ll catch up in her own time. We’re just so lucky to have a wonderful team of doctors and therapists that are making sure Peyton is hitting important milestones. I know that without them, she would be much further behind.
And a big thank you to our wonderful nanny, Leda! I hate to even use the word “nanny” because she is much more than that…she’s part of our family and a dear friend of ours. Leda works with Peyton all day, taking tips from the therapists and making sure Miss P is practicing. I tear up thinking about how lucky we are to have her in our lives!
Between fertility treatments, a difficult pregnancy, and the past year of grieving and Nicu life, I hadn’t been home to San Diego. I am extremely close with my family, so it was tough not traveling home…especially when my support system was thousands of miles away. So after nearly 2 years, I got a brief vacation in Sunny San Diego! I left Ryan and Peyton at home, since we want to keep Peyton away from a germy plane.
I had an amazing, jam-packed few days seeing family and friends. We even made it up to Pasadena to visit a sorority sister and watch the Oregon Ducks destroy UCLA in football! I squeezed in time with my brother’s adorable family and got to see two of my best friends from childhood. My two friends traveled out to Illinois last year to meet Parker and Peyton. The day after they left, we received the grim news about our son. So, of course it was emotional on so many levels. And it was a big milestone for me. Yes, the tears still come daily and I think of Abby and Parker all the time, but it was nice to show my family and friends that I’m OK. I’m moving forward in life and my smile and laughter has returned. Check out the pictures below for a snapshot of my vacation, plus a few pictures from Peyton’s recent visit to the news station. Mr. Skry heads to Nebraska with his childhood friends this weekend, so Peyton and I will be holding down the fort. It’s great that we are finally at a point in our lives where we can enjoy a weekend away and get some much needed time with our friends. Now if only Ryan and I could get a weekend away together!

Hi Peyton. Happy Birthday to one of the most beautiful children God has ever made. God bless you on your journey.
HAPPY TO SEE PEYTON. Happy BIRTHDAY LOVE THAT SMILE. SO GOOD YOU COULD GET AWAY
Stacey, I am so glad you had a wonderful time in San Diego with your parents and Steve and his family! The photos are wonderful to see, so many smiling faces and the Ducks came through to make it so great! My heart hurts for you everyday as I pray for all of you and the void in your hearts for Abby and Parker. Yet, the beautiful Princess Peyton represents God’s mercy and love in her smiles and her progress. God knows your joys and your sorrows and He has given each one the strength, grace and mercy to persevere and to rejoice in this miracle of Peyton, princess of all our hearts. Love, Aunt Mary
Oh yes, Happy unbirthday to Peyton. Abby celebrates her 1/2 year birthday each Sept. One year we went to a Japanese Restaurant and had a ball at lunch. Sat. Roger took Abby for a date to Lawry’s Restaurant. She loves her prime rib, as do her mom and dad. After getting all dressed up, Abby watched a show, while Roger went to work on his car. Soon, out came Abby asking to help him. So she and he were under the car together putting fluid in the gear box. She donned the way too big rubber gloves to help him. Alison was not there to get a snapshot….too bad….maybe it will happen again. What a date! Hope Ryan had a wonderful weekend with His Princess! Love, Aunt Mary
