We’ve been together for well over a decade, so Mr. Skry is used to dealing with me being the “television news lady”. But it wasn’t until a couple of years ago, that Ryan’s life was thrust onto television and the internet. Before I ever went public with our struggles with infertility and our triplets, I got his approval. I would never post anything that he wasn’t comfortable with. Luckily, Mr. Skry is an open book!
I was thrilled when people wanted to hear from him and I was eager to hand over the blog for a post. Well, any of our close friends and family know, Ryan is a man of few words. Ok, not really, but he’s much quieter than me when you first get to know him….maybe that’s why we make the perfect match! Needless to say, he was a little nervous when I handed over our laptop and told him to start typing. So, I decided to compromise. Many of you submitted great questions for him and I thought I would make it easier for Ryan by doing a question and answer. Here it goes…
Give us a little background…Where did you grow up, what teams do you cheer for, how did you meet Stacey, etc.?
I grew up in a small town in Western Nebraska, called Gering…very rural. I played every sport in high school, but played football for a private college in Nebraska. I’m obviously a Husker fan and I’m a life long Denver Broncos fan (along with every other Denver sports team!).
How did I meet Stacey? Well, she hit on me when she was living in my hometown (It’s true! Stacey’s first job in broadcasting was in the small neighboring town of Scottsbluff). Stacey used to interview my mom, who was the mayor at the time. Stacey doesn’t want to sound creepy…but she really did hit on me!
What surprises you most about being a dad?
I guess how natural it is. Being a first time dad, I expected non-stop crying and fussing. But to be honest, Peyton is quite good and makes it so easy on us (other than her diva tendencies!). I think I am most surprised at how much you can love a tiny little human being. It’s the best feeling in the world.
How did you balance dealing with your own grief and being there for your wife for her grief?
I didn’t really balance it, more like tucked my grief away. I think that’s a typical guy thing. I just wanted to be there for my wife during that tragic time. The day our triplets were born, not only did Abby pass away, but Stacey came close to dying. It was surreal. I sat in the waiting room, trying to imagine what my life would be like with two surviving children, but without my wife. I will always wonder what life would be like with all of our children together, but I’m thankful that Stacey is here today, helping to raise Peyton.
How have you handled all of the stress that you and Stacey have faced this past year?
I bury myself in work (as a carpenter) and the gym. It’s a way clear my mind and push the pause button on life. Thinking about the “what if’s” and the heartache we’ve gone through can make a person go crazy, so I like to concentrate on Peyton and our family. Making P laugh makes me forget my worries.
Miss P has touched so many of our hearts. But you also have touched many of us in ways you will probably never realize. How do you feel about being in the public eye?
I honestly don’t feel like I’m in the public eye. But that being said, I’m so glad that Stacey decided to be open with our life and help others through our story. When just Peyton and I are out and about, we do get recognized, which surprises me. But, it’s really nice meet people who care so much about our family! (Stacey here. I love when I get an email from a viewer who says they had a Peyton and Ryan spotting. There is something about a father and daughter together that melts your heart!)
Do you think Peyton will be a girly-girl, tomboy, or a little of both? Is it hard to put together her outfits?
It’s hard to say. It probably depends on who she takes after down the road. Stacey is obviously the “girly-girl”, but I can picture Peyton rolling around in the mud. As for clothes, I think Stacey has taught me enough over the years that I have a good handle on color coordination. It’s the hair that freaks me out! What will I do when she’s older and Stacey is out of town? I only know the mohawk (which she has sadly grown out of)!
What would you do if Peyton got accepted into Nebraska AND Oregon?!
Flip a coin? With us living in Illinois, wouldn’t it be better for Peyton to choose Nebraska…it is much closer than the University of Oregon. Although, Stacey will probably encourage P to be an Oregon Ducks fan for life (SO true! Go Ducks!). I think we have a few years before this becomes an issue.
Are you excited to do the blog, or are you like most guys and wonder what in the world you would talk about?
Yes, I was panicking! Thanks to everyone for writing in questions. You made the blog much easier for me!
So there you go–Mr. Skry in a nutshell. All I have to say is that Ryan is such an amazing husband and father and I am so lucky to have him along for this journey. He has been my rock through everything and has been a calming force when I need it the most.

Peyton, you are such a lucky girl to have the parents that you do. We can tell just how much you love being with your dad, and how much he love it too. Mommy never has to worry when work calls her away, because you both are in such good hands with each other.
Ryan, that you for letting us all into your life and sharing your little girl with us. We all still feel the grief that you have shared, but you know better than anyone that you have two very special angels watching over all of you.
You did a wonderful job in answering our questions.
Ryan, Stacey could not have faced any of the past couple of years without your love, strength, and encouragement. From the day I first met you, I knew you were the perfect guy for Stacey. Your love for each other was so obvious, and a love that that lasts forever, through the good times and the hard times. But, you are also best friends….that cements the love relationship. Peyton looks so happy when you are together! You all lift each other up and that is so sweet to see. thanks for doing this blog. You did a great job of answering all the questions. Have a great week. Love, Aunt Mary
