I’m sure many of you can relate. One day your little baby is cooing in your arms, the next day they are squirming out of your grip and on the move. Peyton is officially a toddler…eek!!! I don’t know when it happened. It didn’t seem like a gradual transition. I swear that I blinked and she suddenly looked less like a baby and more like a growing child.
Most toddlers her age are yapping up a storm and chasing each other all over the house. Peyton isn’t quite there at 18 months old. While she isn’t walking, she is fast on her knees! I can’t even keep track of her. I turn my head for one second and she’s at the baby gate, trying to break free through to the stairs. She even plays “Elf On A Shelf” with our furniture. Oh boy, let the chaos begin!
Several of you have commented on how much her features have changed. It’s hard not to take notice these days. The frail little micro preemie now has chubby cheeks and meat on her bones. The signature mohawk has given way to darling little pigtails (Cindy Lou Who hair!). And her overall look has matured over the months.
But there are a few things that have stayed the same. Peyton’s diva personality was evident in her first few weeks of life, and a year and a half later, it’s even more apparent. Peyton loves to give us the “lower lip”. Miss P has perfected the pout, along with the scream..and sometimes it’s hard not to laugh at. We always know when she’s faking it. No tears=faking, eyes welling up=the real deal. The other thing that hasn’t changed–those big bold eyes. I think it’s one of her best features. It’s kind of ironic that she has such big eyes because she was slow to take in the world. Because the triplets were so premature, their eyes were fused shut at birth. Parker opened his eyes after about a week and a half, but Peyton didn’t check out her surroundings until she was two weeks old. Nowadays, those eyes are always wide open, observing something every moment of the day. I couldn’t tell you what color they are; they seem to change often. Some days they are a smoky blue-grey, while other days they are a rich brownish-grey. All I know is that they are gorgeous!
Peyton has been busy with therapists and doctors in the past few weeks. All in all, she’s doing great. We’re always concerned about her health and keeping her weak immune system away from the illnesses running rampant. I am the crazy lady who wears a mask at work when others are sick. I know it’s crazy, but I can’t afford to bring those germs home to Peyton. It’s tough not taking her out for errands or to a restaurant, but we know it’s best for her. We want to avoid another hospital stay, so we’re finding plenty to do at home. And boy, P will be busy with all of her new toys come Christmas!
We celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah in our household, so this week Peyton is busy getting a nightly present and enjoying the candles flickering in the menorah. My parents are in town, having a blast babysitting and spoiling their grandchild. This will be their first Christmas with Peyton and I can’t wait to see Peyton’s reaction to all of her presents. She doesn’t understand the holidays (heck, she doesn’t even know her own name!), but she sure does love playing with the wrapping paper and bows!
I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful holiday season, whatever you may celebrate. It’s a time to be with family and friends and to reflect on all that you’ve been blessed with. I’ll be taking next week off from the blog, but be sure to follow me on Facebook for some adorable Christmas photos. Cheers!

Hi Peyton, u r absolutely adorable. Merry Christmas to you and the whole family!!!
I have enjoyed watching her progress, even across the country. I see updates thru a HS friend of mine that still lives in Decatur. I know your pain of losing those sweet babies. 2 miscarriages, and losing my 27 year old son almost 3 years ago. So glad to see her doing so well. Best wishes to your family….
Thanks Cheryl for the support! I’m blown away by the amount of lives my triplets have touched….even across the country! I know the holidays can be difficult for anyone who has experienced a loss. I wish you a blessed holiday season!
Hi Peyton☺️Merry Christmas Sweetheart
