After several months of being secluded, Miss P is finally breaking free! This was our second winter keeping Peyton in hibernation, away from most people and germs. She’s getting stronger and her health is much better this year, but being a micro-preemie means that she’s more susceptible to illnesses like the flu and RSV. And as my family learned last fall, a simple cold or cough can lead to a hospital stay.
I had planned on keeping her home for a few more weeks, but Mr. Skry was out of town. So, if I wanted to be productive, Peyton had to tag along. And boy, was she THRILLED to be out of the house! This girl was all smiles as we went to our favorite breakfast diner, Charlie Parker’s. It was quite a change from the first time we took her out a year ago. Instead of a 10 lb baby in an infant carrier, Peyton walked around the restaurant, getting lots of smiles as she entertained the masses.
Peyton sure knows how to put on a show. You would think she might be shy and overwhelmed by strangers, especially since she hasn’t been out in public much. But nope, this girl absolutely loves the attention! If someone looks her way, she instantly shows off her million dollar smile. And if a man waves to her, Miss P simply bats her eyes and flirts. I think the constant doctor appointments and therapists stopping by our house has made Peyton comfortable with people. But, we’ll definitely need to teach her “stranger danger” in the future! Check out the pictures of our weekend below. Peyton even helped me make chocolate chip cookies for Grandma Skrysak, who is visiting from California this week. As you can see, P takes after her mother when it comes to a love for sweet treats!
Unfortunately, within 48 hours of leaving the house, Peyton was down for the count. Our poor girl is sick! It’s so difficult seeing your child lethargic and under the weather. We have ramped up her breathing treatments and we’re in touch with her doctors, hoping this quickly passes instead of getting worse. Of course, I feel like a terrible parent: My susceptible child gets sick under my watch. Could we have avoided it? Possibly. But, I also can’t leave her locked up in our house forever. As Peyton’s immune system and lungs get stronger, she’ll be able to handle illnesses better. So in the meantime, we cross out fingers that little colds and viruses come and go without posing too much of a problem. My mom comes to town today and we have a fun weekend planned with P. Here’s to hoping she is on the mend in no time and showing off her latest walking moves for MeeMee!

Prayers for quick healing. I understand housebound as my immune system is compromised from chemo and operation but warm weather is coming so at least you can go outside. Hugs. Feel better soon
You are NOT a terrible parent. It was bound to happen – on your watch or Mr. Skry’s – or both. It’s a germy world out there. o_O At any rate, I hope Miss P is up and about and 100% super soon!
Thanks Amber! I know every child gets sick at some point, so it was bound to happen with Miss P. Hopefully, it’s a quick illness so we can have fun with grandma this weekend!
Poor P and poor mom and dad! Don’t be too hard on yourselves, this is a horrible season for illness and all the protection in the world would still let something slip in. Prayers she gets better quickly!
Hope Miss P is feeling better!!
God Bless little Peyton. Prayers that she will be feeling much better real soon. Hugs!
Aww praying that she will fight this bug off and be as good as new ASAP. She is such a blessing.
So sorry Miss P “Breaking Free” experience has resulted with her not feeling well. Prayers for a rapid recovery. There is so many germs out there and you are not a bad parent Stacey. It could of happened another time also with all the weather changes and viruses that are currently in the air. Blessings for a great weekend with Grandma. Miss P was adorable as usual in all the pictures. Hugs!

Love seeing her grow to a darling little girl.
she is too cute for words. Always so happy to hear how she is doing. Give her a big hug for me
Feel better Peyton!! It’s so fun to watch you grow! I have a Payton at home too and she’s almost three. 😉 I just wanted to send many thanks to you Stacey for sharing in all aspects of your journey in motherhood. You were so encouraging for my sister in law (who actually went to school with your husband back in the day) when her water broke at 26 weeks and gave birth to my precious niece at 28 weeks. Your willingness to be vulnerable and share is helping so many. I recently shared your blog with a good friend, multiple mommy, who lost a twin at 37 weeks. Her daughter is thriving and doing well. Her brother a beautiful guardian angel. It is so hard to know how to comfort a friend. Thanks to you, she was able to relate so easily to your words about grief, bringing one child home when you were prepared for more, and giving back (spreading love) after so many reached out to help you! Keep sharing Peyton’s smiles, those special ways A&P are helping the world as angels, and your loving journey in motherhood. It’s something special! 🙂
Hope you are feeling much better Miss P. Know you enjoyed your me time with Mommy during the weekend. And glad you got to get out and about. Get well soon – – back to 100% in no time. Enjoy Grandma being with you. Hugs & Kisses – – get well soon!!
Please don’t beat yourself up. Each of these illnesses wil help to build up her immune system to these little thing. I’m praying that it wil be a quick recovery!

Hi Peyton! Hope you feel better soon. Hugs. Yay for breaking free.
Hi Peyton, I have never commented on your posts, so this is new for me! Just want to say to Mommie, If you don’t let her out once in a while she will never grow any defenses to all the small or large diseases out there. I have a great granddaughter Harlow, she’s almost 21/2 years and very healthy except her sinus and ears, she has had tubes put in her ears twice in this past year and her Mommie works and so I do my part and take my greats to their doctor visits when she needs my help, my back is nearly broken from picking her up, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Just keep having fun and walking, Love your stories. Grandma Patty
Poor baby! I only have preemies, not micropreemies, but they got RSV their second winter, when they were no longer eligible for Synagis. I felt like an awful mama, but the doctor pointed out that while my girls need to stay healthy, part of that is exposing their immune systems to things to fight. The balance is so hard to find, though.
