There is something magical about seeing your child in pure bliss. That was the case with Miss P last weekend, as we took part in a miracle weekend at the University of Illinoi’s “Illinithon”. Colleges across the country hold these dance-a-thon’s to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. I’m so proud of the 400 students who raised more than $127,000 for St. John’s Children’s Hospital, which is near and dear to our hearts!
You have probably seen it on the news: heartwarming stories of children with medical miracles. I’ve spent years covering stories on so many children like those who are part of CMN. So, it’s hard to explain what it’s like to be on the other side. Standing up in front of the crowd, I was reminded of a new purpose in life. Yes I have my career and my family, but I’m now able use the journey of my triplets to inspire others. As someone told me on Facebook this week, I’ve learned how to make lemonade out of lemons.
Peyton, along with the other miracle children, were the life of the party! The kids danced, smiled and put on a show for the college students. Watching Peyton stroll around the ballroom, smiling and clapping for herself, was so surreal. How did my 22 weeker get to where she is today?!? As I watched her interact with all of the college students, I choked up. Sometimes I look at Peyton and see Abby. I think about what her identical sister would be like by her side, causing all sorts of ruckus. Then I think of my angel, Parker, and I can’t help but wonder what life would be like today. Would he still be that calm, sweet child, who everyone loved? I wiped away the tears and smiled at Peyton because I know P & A live within her. While they may not be there in person, I know they were dancing alongside Miss P. And as the announcer told the crowd, the students were dancing for kids who couldn’t; children like Abby and Parker and those who are disabled, unable to dance on their own. This fundraiser was more than just a fun event for college students, it was a way for them to learn valuable life lessons.
There are several events throughout the year that Children’s Miracle Network invites us to. So over the years, you begin to get to know other “miracle” families. This year we got to see Peyton’s friend Eliza, who was a miracle Nicu baby just 6 months older. Our families have gotten together in the past and it’s fun to see E & P together this year, healthy and rambunctious! We just love the CMN family…we feel so lucky to be part of a wonderful charity!
Check out the pictures below from the event. A huge thank you to the Sigma chapter of Alpha Delta Phi! They were “Team Peyton” and went all out for our family. They welcomed Peyton with open arms and kept our little princess smiling all day long. The theme of the day was Disney/Pixar characters and we were Piglet. Their poster is the perfect saying for Peyton, “All the things that make me different, are the things that make me ME.”
