I’ve been blogging about my triplets since 2013, sharing everything from my journey of infertility, to infant loss and grief, to life with a wild toddler. And I’m blown away by the support and followers who are still interested our lives. When I created “Perfectly Peyton” nearly two years ago, I would have laughed if you told me that the site would have well over 500,000 visits and reach people in dozens of countries. I’m flattered and honored that our family has touched so many lives. I hope we can continue to do so for many years to come.
Well before I was an actual mom, I was known as the “newsroom mom” at work. Whether it’s a safety pin or extra utensils, my desk drawer is a version of Mary Poppins bag…no one has ever been stranded in an emergency! And well before I became a mother, I LOVED to cook. I still do, but I don’t find nearly enough time these days to experiment in my kitchen. For years, I would whip up baked goods and make entire meals for the newsroom. It’s something my coworkers enjoyed and it brought happiness to me being able to do it. I had several cooking segments on television over the year. I even began a cooking blog, New & Nosh, but haven’t touched it two years since I became a mom.
Recently, I posted a picture on Facebook of a quick breakfast I whipped up, double strawberry muffins. It’s an easy creation, made with ingredients most people have in their kitchen. I was amazed at the response on social media! Lots of people requested the recipe. And that’s when a light bulb went off. Why not broaden this blog to more than just updates? What if I begin to share some of Peyton’s favorite foods and our “go-to” no fuss recipes for our family? So I started brainstorming and here’s what I came up with…
The tag line of my blog says, “Navigating life with our surviving triplet”. I started looking back at the feedback on my blog and realized that so many people could benefit from some of the things I’ve learned along the road to motherhood. Don’t worry, the Peyton updates won’t end. And of course I’ll be pouring my heart out in emotional posts as well, so don’t put away those tissues. But, I want to start incorporating posts like recipes or ideas for rainy day activities (Ziplock bag paint….fun for hours, without making a mess!). Posts like finding the best developmental toys for your child or my favorite crock pot recipe to take to a pot luck. I want to share the tips that I’ve learned over the years and that have helped me become a better parent and person. And I’ll even hand over my blog for some special guests posts. A dear friend of mine is currently working on our first guest post about raising a family with a child who has special needs.
I hope you are as excited as I am! I try to update my blog every week or two, but this new direction will give me the opportunity for more posts. And I would love to hear from you, since you’re the driving force behind me being an open book and you’re what keeps me sharing our story years later. What types of things would you like to read about? Are there recipes you’ve been hunting for? Is there a parenting topic you’d like to read about? Looks for some exciting posts in the coming months, sprinkled in between my normal Peyton, Parker and Abby posts. And thanks for coming along for the ride. I’m thrilled you’ve stuck around through all of the ups and downs!
