I’m not quite sure how it happened. It seemed like we had just said farewell to Halloween, with Thanksgiving creeping up. But before I knew it, the calendar read “December” and I was suddently ill-prepared for the upcoming holidays. I’m a planner; a type-A personality who doesn’t do well when things are done on the fly. The past few months have been a whirlwind, and to be honest, I’m exhausted. That’s why I’m taking a couple of weeks off from the blogging world and taking a step back to enjoy the holidays.
My mind has always raced a mile a minute. I love to stay busy and I thrive on doing things that I’m passionate about. This year reached a whole new level when my family launched our non-profit charity, Triple Heart Foundation. We had a feeling the charity, created in honor of our triplets, would get support, but we were blown away by the generosity and kindness of people across the country. Our little non-profit has taken off and is quite time consuming. Luckily, my daughter, Peyton, is a vital part of the operation and it’s become a wonderful way to teach her about kindness and giving back. Plus, it’s a beautiful reminder of Parker and Abby, two of our triplets who passed away in 2013. We’ll be delivering 50 care packages to NICU families this week, filled with some of our favorite books that are sentimental from our time in the hospital, as well as other goodies and hand made hats for the babies.
Between a full time job in television, having a family, blogging and running a charity, life can be quite chaotic! I’ve scaled back on this blog over the past few months and have concentrated on writing meaningful pieces that are both therapeutic for me and inspiring to others. So, while you may not see new posts on Perfectly Peyton all the time, you can find my stories all over the internet, on places like Her View From Home, Scary Mommy, Today’s Parenting Team and Huffington Post, among others. I had every intention of writing a few new posts this month on the blog, but life got in the way. Both Peyton and I came down with illnesses last week and I spent much of the weekend resting, As I lay in bed, down for the count, I realized that it’s time to relax and not fret over the little things. It was time to take it easy and spend time with my family. So that’s what I’m doing.
We’re staying put in Illinois this next week, just the three of us and our dog. Peyton is thrilled to celebrate both Hanukah and Christmas and she’s telling anyone who will listen that she wants a doll house from Santa! We have no big plans other than to create new holiday traditions and FaceTime our families in Nebraska and California. I even volunteered to work on Christmas night, so that others who have family nearby can be with their loved ones. That’s what life is about–making sure you find time to spend with those you love. There is no need to stress, the other stuff can wait. If you need me, I’ll be on the couch watching the twinkle in my daughter’s eyes as she experiences the excitement of the holiday season.
Happy Holidays from the Skrysaks!
